I found this amusing today, not for any particular reason, but because its a pretty high profile brother making a pretty high profile statement, and whats more is that I would suggest he’s right.
The statement comes from Br. Ernest Borgnine, and was publishedin the Scotsman today.
In the long piece on his life and caree, he makes one brief referance to his faith, and what he says may surprise some, and endear others. The lead up to the statement is perhaps more telling, which details his families break with the church over some priestly daliances, something that seems to be in the news more and more today.
But with this break, Br. Borgnine in his 92 years of wisdom, has definitely evolved the spirit of Freemasonry.
In the article, which you can read here, Br. Borgnine says of his religion now:
…is Freemasonry. “I am very happy to say that I’m a 33rd degree Grand Cross Master Mason in the Scottish Rite. We believe in one thing, God. We believe in another thing: to help your fellow man. Be as kind as you can be to everybody. We support and take care of our own hospitals; we have a retirement plan, charities. You don’t have to go to church. If you can do good like that, what’s better?”
If you have an opportunity, read the article, I think you will enjoy it. It is, after all, a high profile brother not afraid to say what he believes.

Oh great – a 33º who says that you don’t need to go to church. How long before the Antis make something of that, do you think?
Raum Sariel says
He should have said to tax the churches.
Good stuff Bro.Borgnine 🙂
